Let's buy a Phablet?

The feeling now in China is to buy a Phablet: a combination of Phone and Tablet. Actually, are only for devices 6 or 7 inch able to perform the function of voice call and has a big screen to use Android apps like Browser, Facebook and other.

The TudoVemDaChina, entering in this wave, selected a set of Phablets for one of them to be bought. My idea is to acquire a Phablet with GPS and 3 g for use in my car, allowing the use of Google Maps from the cheap data plan of any mobile operator. In addition, I also have interest in using the Google voice commands and other transit APPs, that obviously require internet access.

To make this possible we need a Phablet with 3 g and GPS support logically. Accessories like Bluetooth, WiFi and TV are superfluous, Although interesting to a different use in the car. Let's get down to four selected devices on PandaWill, Dealextreme and Banggood:

1) AMPE 78

The Ampe 78 It's a cheap Tablet with entrance to a built-in GPS and 3 g SIM chip, perfect for the desired application. According to research on the internet seems to be support for voice call, Although this does not make it clear in the specifications. There is no support for voice call, This AMPE 78 could not be classified as Phablet, but wouldn't stop the access to the data for use in the car as a GPS.

Pay attention to the WCDMA 850 MHz/2100 MHz, because that's what determines whether the device will have access to 3 g networks “high” speed (HSDPA). Otherwise we will be stuck with 2 g (Edge/GPRS) that does not work right in anywhere. Also worth mentioning that in some places of Brazil 3 g network runs on 850 MHz and other in 2100 MHz, so have the two frequencies is important to improve compatibility. THE AMPE 78 supports the WCDMA 850 MHz/2100 MHz and can be considered for purchase.

DualCore CPU 1 GHz, 512MB of RAM and a little more than price 100 dollars makes this device have great cost benefit. The only problem is that a lot of people speak ill of AMPE brand and there are many videos on youtube showing tablets AMPE defective. But anyone who wants to risk it can follow the links below:

2) JXD P300

The JDX P300 appears to have a physical construction a little more robust than average, which is great for use in a car. Let us remember that none of these Phablets is supported to be placed in a car, IE, I'm going to have to buy a universal mount.

The JXD is a Dual Core 1. GHz with 512 MB RAM, IE, more than enough to run any GPS Navigator and other simple applications for Android. It also has GPS, 3G (850/2100MHz) and built-in Bluetooth. The price is a bit higher, about of 130 U.S. dollars, but the quality of the brand can make a difference in the end. In a video on Youtube got the proof I needed to make sure that this tablet has support for voice call, IE, This is really a Phablet! I leave the links down there:

3) Freelander P10 and P20

The mark FreeLander is known as manufacturer of automotive GPS, also having a good production of Tablets. P10 and P20 versions have built-in 3 g (Dual SIM) and voice call support. Are, in this way, examples of Phablets. Below the version P10:

Neither the P10 or P20 are dual colors, Although they have the same price of competitors. What can you expect here is a construction of better quality that is typical of the brand FreeLander, and whereas to use Google Maps it is not necessary to large processing capacity, both models are still candidates for purchase. In addition both have support for dual sim, What is also very useful: If a 3 g is not working we can change to another of another carrier. Both the P20 as P10 have 1 GB of RAM, Unlike the past still have 512 MB.

The difference between the P10 and P20 is that this second has a better screen visibility, support for GSM 850 MHz (on the river we use the 2100 MHz, so I won't be needing it) and even analog TV, What's interesting to watch a football game in the car. Below the photo of the P20:

Below the links to the Phablets Freelander P10 and P20. Attention to buy so as not to be mistaken, This links are for tablets with built-in 3 g, not with 3 g accessible via modem:

4) MTP211 and MP700

These are unbranded Phablets set, IE, they may even work well, but until someone buy we can't keep track of build quality. Below the Mtp211:

Both are Dual Core with GPS and 512 MB of memory. The MTP211 supports only 3 g 2100 MHz, While the shown below also supports 3 g 850 MHz:

Without much notion of quality buying both Phablets is a bit risky. I'm not even sure if they're made by the same factory. The price is inviting to the specifications: about of 120 U.S. dollars. Both have, as far as I'm informed in the forums, voice call and dual Sim support. Below I leave the links to the store PandaWill where found:

5) Conclusion:

With the fall of prices of so-called Phablets is worth a lot to buy them instead of the versions without 3 g embedded voice/. Nice to have a tablet with 3 g network access for use anywhere without WiFi. The use in the car is quite interesting, in the case of Google Maps or other transit services available on internet. I think I will end up buying even the P20 of Freelander, the physical construction better suited to installation in the car. When it arrives I will make a review and a video about the advantages of having 3 g service in the car. Until the next!
