Kingspec SATA SSD 32 GB – Windows 7 in SSD

Some time ago I was looking to buy one of these SSD drives, What are flash memory devices designed to replace conventional mechanical hard drive. Are faster, less noisy and require less energy, the problem is that are still expensive and do not have large storage capacity.

The idea is to put one of these devices as main drive system for your windows (the famous C:\), using a conventional HD just to store downloads, documents and media files. The operating system is faster because everything is written in the SSD is read with much greater speed than conventional HD.

SSDs drives have always been rather expensive, even in China, and for that I never had me excited to buy. But that all changed after having found this 32 GB Kingspec Sata for only U $ 37.

It comes in this cute little box and unexpected, because most Chinese products comes only in a plastic bag. The storage capacity is 32 GB, enough to install any version of windows xp, 7 or 8, Although some adjustments have to be made.

There's the 32 GB SSD drive with SATA interface. Pretty light and all metal. He came in an anti-static bag that I don't know where it went…

There are versions of drive SDD since some MB up to 256 GB. Up to 32 GB versions are still extremely expensive and not worth it. If you need more memory best buy HDs common even.

Picture from the Chinese site I found that the drive was a little smaller. Actually, is the size of a notebook HD.

The interface is SATA, with source and data.

Unfortunately doesn't come with the data cable. Could have saved in the box and included a cable like this yellow. I'm glad I had a.

There's the SSD connected to my computer ready to install windows. I decided to make the installation of windows 7, Since my adventures by Windows 8 were a fiasco. Everything went well, Although the installation has taken enough.

The first tests with the SSD were bad, and I started reading on the internet that use this type of drive you must enable, in the BIOS, AHCI mode. To my surprise my computer was with this operating mode is disabled in the conventional HDs speed impacting also! My tip is to enable AHCI mode before you start windows setup 7.

If you installed Windows with the AHCI mode disabled in BIOS only enables it won't work. To force its use by windows you must edit the following registry item, using regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM/CurrentControlset/Services/msahci/start ——————————> Change to ZERO (will be 0X00000000 stored in this key)

I edited this registry key and my windows began to give blue screen on boot logo. I found better then reinstall from the beginning with the setting enabled. Worked normally.

After that even my main HD improved performance. Downloaded the software Crystaldiskmark to do a benchmarking of my main HD, a relatively new Seagate 500 GB, and compare it with this SSD of 32 GB Kingspec. Below the HD Seagate benckmarking.

I did the same on my HD notebook, which to my surprise it worked better than my desktop HD. This is due, possibly, to defragment a drive that is in use for more than five years. The column on the right in the photo is the rate, in MBytes/s, disk and read the column on the left is the rate of disk writing. The first line (SEQ) contains the sequential read/write rate and the others are random read rates, with file size of 512 k in the second row and 4 k in the last two.

Conventional mechanical hard drives are very good for sequential reading, IE, When reading a file in adjacent blocks of the disk. However, the operating system, both during the boot and in normal use, does reading files in random order, What does the HD performance be reduced.

Below we have the same test done with the HD SSD. See sequential read rate is more than double of the HDs, and about 5 times higher in reading random 512 files. Reaching the 50 or 90 times in small file of approximately 4 KB.

However, the recording rate is quite low, and this is not a memory SSD features, but it is a feature of this from Kingspec. That left me a bit disappointed. Windows setup 7 It took over this, just like when you installed office and updates.

Despite the poor performance in recording, the reading is quite fast and the boot of the operating system, as well as normal use, was a lot faster. I think it was worth it to have bought yet. In the future I will buy a SSD drive better for my desktop computer and transfer this to the notebook, where certainly will have big impact.

The big advantage of this SSD from kingspec is the price. For about $ 60 you will make a good upgrade on a personal computer or notebook. The downside is that the writing speed is low, impacting negatively when you have to install some software. For my research, the speed of SSDs more expensive, like Samsung or Kingstone reach 500 MB/s for both reading as for writing, the problem is that they are more than 200 ~ 300 real, and for only 32 GB/64 GB. I'm hoping to lower the price to buy one of these.

Those interested in buying this memory more leave the little cockroach Kingspec links for FocalPrice and DealExtreme. The memory is no longer on sale, but it never hurts to check from time to time to make sure. I leave also the link with tips for installing windows on a SSD memory.

  4. Hi friend,

I am looking to buy 02 KingSpec SSD for my notes, you think 32 GB is enough for the operating system and basic software? Can I use an external HD to access my files without locking or speed issues?

    Grateful,

    Bala

    • Is enough for both windows 7 as for the 8, x 86 or x 64. I installed one on my netbook and it was pretty fast. There is no speed issues and lock. Download CrystalDiskMark and test your HD compared to that posted about Kingspec speed. Non-sequentially speed for large files (second line of the crystalMark) is the important. In my case the kingspec is 5 to 6 times faster, What does the boot getting very fast and pretty cool…
