Adjustable Workbench source for tattoo artists

You must be thinking: Why would anyone buy a font for tattoo artists without tattoo artist? Simple, I thought the price would be a good way to make a small Workbench source and easy to test some lumber that I buy in China.

This source is adjustable and has two posts P10 on the front. One of the posts is the connector for the needle, with the power (+V and GND). The other is the entrance to the control pedal needle tattoo artist. Of course I didn't want any of that.

The minimum value of the source is 1.2 and the maximum is 17.9 V (without load). The minimum output voltage I thought there was a regulator LM317 inside. Spoiler Alert!

The source also has an LED and a POT to control the output voltage. Ridiculous design error: the power LED is connected at the output of the regulator, IE, will not turn on when the voltage is less than about 2V.

Opening the source what I find? An LM317 bolted on metal box. My first thought was: so the maximum current is 1A and not 1.5 as says the box.

It was easy to make the modification to bench source: I just had to unsolder the two female P10 connectors to put two posts banana stuck to the metal box. In addition, It was also necessary to short-circuit the P10 connector of the pedal, that's closer to the red LED.

There is the “MOD” transforming the source of tattoo artists in source of electronic boards. Detail for the LED thing when the source is in V 2.1.

The circuit is a switched-mode power supply with a small transformer, a chip that controls the LM317 regulator and switching on output. I didn't expect more than 1A, but I did the 1.1 Although the output voltage has been limited to 12V. After leaving connected with a charge that pulled the 1.1 for a few hours I managed to register on the oscilloscope around of noise 240mV, in the range of 24 kHz. Is not a source very fantastic, because the noise gives peak 1 the 2V, but the expense.

OBS.: In this picture the oscilloscope is set to AC with the circuit “the full load” (1.1The).

Like the source. I am seriously thinking of buying another one of these also to modify. A good source of countertop can cost more than 200 real, and there are models of third Chinese who are very cheap. This is good to test small things, but I wouldn't call it nothing too important. I leave the link to the DealExtreme, where I bought the source, and to other sources of tattooists in the search system AllChinese.
